Gates - Questions and answers
In today's post Gates - questions and answers. Frequently asked questions and our answers. We hope to help you choose the best gate and fence.
Can the effective range of the remote controls be different from the factory stated range?
Yes. The effective range of pilots depends on a number of factors. It can be limited by electromagnetic interference. All kinds of GSM transmitters, high-voltage lines, transformer stations, CB stations, metal structures, concrete walls, etc. adversely affect the effective range of remote controls.
Can an operator be fitted to every door?
In general, an operator can be used for any door. However, there are a few rules to bear in mind.
- Firstly: unusual gate designs are more expensive when installing a gate operator.
- Secondly: In the case of sliding gates, swing gates and garage doors alike, special attention must be paid to the workmanship and quality of the automation components used. Over time, the rolling resistance of the door increases, which in turn places the mechanical parts of the operator under increasing stress.
- Thirdly: pay attention to the quality of the installation of your door. A poorly made gate, crookedly installed, improperly balanced can cause malfunctions in the actuators.
How do I open the gate in the event of a power failure?
Most units are equipped with a special mechanism that allows emergency unlocking of the actuator with keys. Optional emergency batteries can be used on most operator models. In the case of garage door operators, a cable is fitted at the guide rail. Attention: The use of such a cable is necessary if there is no other entrance to the garage than the operator door. Always require the installer to install an emergency release cable.
What is the difference between a dynamic code remote control and a fixed code remote control?
There is a difference between fixed and floating code in the signal sent. In a radio route with a fixed code, each press of the remote control button sends the same signal. With a variable code, on the other hand, each time a remote control button is pressed, a different signal is sent. The signal changes according to a specific algorithm (rule).
Is additional closure needed?
For sliding gate and garage door operators, no. Swing gate operators, on the other hand, sometimes do. There are cases in which the design of the swing gate operator does not have a lock. This is most often the case with hydraulic drives. An additional electromechanical lock must then be used. For swing gates with a leaf of more than 2.5m, even if there is a lock, it is worth thinking about fitting an electromechanical lock. A long arm means a long lever, which can cause the gate to be easily 'pushed through' and consequently damage the automation.
Do I need photocells?
Yes, and yes again. Photocells are the main safety component of an automatically closing gate. Without photocells, the door will hit an obstacle in its field of operation. Depending on the operator model installed, it will either change direction or try to close further. In either case, the door may collide with a vehicle or a person.
Do I need a warning light?
The installation of a warning light is not essential. But it is worth considering its installation, especially in busy areas or with limited exit visibility. The main task of the warning light is to signal the operation of the drive and the movement of the door.
Can I fit the drive myself?
Yes. The warranty conditions are provided on the device. Specialised personnel are not required to install the drive. Nevertheless, there are a number of nuances during assembly. Incorrect installation of the actuator may result in damage to the actuator, or it may wear out too quickly. The warranty service is able to determine such a case. The repair costs will then be borne by the customer. However, this is an occasional case.
Can the gate operator be operated from the same remote control as the garage door operator?
Yes, even if the drives are from different manufacturers. In this case, you will need to fit an additional radio card and purchase remote controls that support the appropriate number of channels.
Do I have to dispense with a lock when installing an operator on my garage door?
Unfortunately, however, most gates do not have bolt operation. When installing the operator, the lock must be locked in the open position. However, the operator locks the gate in the closed position and simply opening the gate is not possible.
